DIFFERENT TYPES OF FLANGES
Different Types of Flanges can be
used for Piping a Component as per their Requirements and its specific
Functions. It depends mainly on the Required Strength for the Flanged Joint.
Let’s us dive into different
types of Flanges which are used for Various Purposes.
WELD NECK FLANGE
A weld neck Flange is used in high
Pressure and high/low temperature applications. Different Metals components are
combined in order to make a Flange. Weld Neck Flange restricts the flow of fluid
coming through a Piping System. The Dimension of the weld neck Flange should match
the dimension of the connecting pipe because a negative effect at the Flanged
Joints can lead to Erosion/Corrosion of the Metal. Weld Neck Flange as the name
suggest has a neck which allows a smooth flow between the Pipes and the Weld
Neck Flange. This is to detect Leakages and Welding Defects.

LONG WELD NECK FLANGE
Long weld neck Flanges and
weld neck Flanges are similar, the only things which is not common is the Neck.
The Neck of a Long Weld Neck Flanges is Extended as compared to Weld Neck
Flange and it acts as a Boring Extension. Long Weld Neck Flanges are used on Columns,
Vessels, Barrels etc.

SLIP- ON FLANGE
Slip on Flanges also known as Hubbed
Flanges is easy to recognize due to its slim and Compact Shape. Smooth
Finishing, Corrosion Resistant, Wear and Tear Resistant are some of the key
Features of Slip-on Flange. A Slip-on Flange is connected to the Pipes or
Fittings with two Welds, on is connected inside and one outside the Flange. The
Outside Diameter of a Slip-on Flange is shorter than the bore Size.

THREADED FLANGE
Threaded
Flanges are joined to the Pipes by screws onto the Flange and are required in
explosive areas, such as Oil and gas stations, Big Plants because the execution
of such flanges in such an Environment can be dangerous. joined to the Pipes. Threaded
flanges are available in sizes up to 4 inches and multiple pressure
ratings, however, they are used, mostly, small size piping in low pressure and
low-temperature applications, like water and air utility services.
Features of a Threaded Flanges:
·
High Level of Performance
·
Corrosion Resistance
·
Well Finished

SOCKET WELD FLANGE
Socket Weld Flanges are used for Small Size and high-Pressure
Piping that do not Transfer high flow of Fluid. Strength of a Socket Weld
Flange is similar to Slip-on Flange. This Type of Flange are subject to Corrosion
between the Pipe end and the Socket Shoulder. Socket weld flanges are connected to pipes using a single fillet
weld executed on the outer side of the flange. This gap shall be left to allow
proper positioning of the pipe inside the flange socket after the
solidification of the weld.
